Deniz Defne Acerol

Born in Hong Kong in 1990, Deniz graduated with honors from the Painting Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2013. In the same year, she held her first solo exhibition and has since participated in numerous fairs and exhibitions. Alongside her painting practice, she has produced graphic designs for posters, album covers, wine labels, scarves, and wallpapers. She continues her work in her studio in Istanbul.
Interested in storytelling and imaginary spaces, Deniz combines references from art history with mythological imagery to reflect contemporary life. Through extensive technical experimentation, she has developed her own methods to depict imaginative scenes with a rich visual language.
Preferring water-based materials that suit her detailed approach, her work also reflects an East Asian aesthetic influenced by her birthplace. Inspired by engraving techniques, she reinterprets traditional hatching methods used by old masters and combines them with watercolor, resulting in technically refined, illustrative works.
